HOTEL REVIEW: HAVELOCK PLACE BUNGALOW, COLOMBO

A charming colonial jungalow gently crumbling about an hour from the airport. The overgrown garden is so dramatic and lush that it almost seems like the white walls and wooden beams are there to support the garden. With only 7 or 8 rooms it can be hard to get a room but it’s a sweet place to stay in Colombo. The staff is very helpful and the rooms immaculately clean and simple. There’s a small outdoor pool and jacuzzi under a giant mango tree from which fruit hang into the pool. The cafe serves simple home style meals in generous portions but no alcohol. The supermarket down the street will set you up with wine and beer though.
