RESTAURANT REVIEW: GUPPY BY AI, LODHI COLONY

ForTheReluctantChefI hesitate to recommend Guppy – it’s hard enough to get a table.

LOOKS LIKE
The place is adorable. Designed by Wes Anderson on an anime trip. Lots of colour and whimsical Jap cultural references – what’s not to love.

TASTES LIKE

One of my favourite menus in Delhi and some good food that’s good for you. I could live for a week on the Chilli Edamame. The Black Cod is everything everyone’s raved about and their sushi game is also on point. The chef’s experiment, using red rice from the North East for some of the sushi rolls, is a spectacular success. The red rice is firm and flavourful enough in its own right to hold its own against the fresh fillings.

The mocktail scene is a total fail though – everything is too sugary.

Tastefully buzzy, Guppy is a pleasure.

RESTAURANT REVIEW: IRISH HOUSE, CALCUTTA AIRPORT

Imagine my surprise when I saw Kalaghoda’s charming wood panelled Irish House had an outlet in the glitzy new Calcutta airport. A testament to what interior decorators can accomplish these days.

Looks Like

The incongruous “stained glass” made out of ply and plastic could have been stolen from a doll house. The theme is pretty convincingly carried out through the space. A corporate interpretation of an Irish pub.

Tastes Like

It’s all pretty much bog standard, mass manufactured faux American junk but not the worst thing I’ve eaten in an airport.

Avoid the Falafel Burger, it tastes like cardboard.

Feels Like

The staff was haplessly sweet.
